Max Lehman: MaxDNA

Nambé, New Mexico

Max Lehman is a contemporary ceramic sculptor based in northern New Mexico whose work explores the creation of imaginary worlds and the beings that inhabit them. Drawing from his understanding of astrophysics and particle theory, he investigates complex scientific ideas such as quantum entanglement, simultaneity, and the singularity, blending these concepts with his fascination for the unknown. His sculptures often reflect his interest in trans-dimensional realities, where science fiction and fantasy collide.

Lehman’s diverse sources of inspiration include science fiction, pop culture, toys, everyday objects, and even whimsical treats like ice cream and baked goods. This eclectic mix of influences gives his work a playful yet thought-provoking quality, transforming the mundane into something extraordinary. While his primary medium is clay, he frequently incorporates neon lights, digital media, installation art, and mixed media, creating dynamic, immersive works that invite viewer interaction.

The "DNA" stands for "Dinosaurs 'N' Aliens," a playful nod to his fascination with both prehistoric life and extraterrestrial beings. Through his sculptures, Lehman invites audiences to explore the intersection of science, imagination, and the mysteries of the universe.
