This series, begun in 1990, was an attempt to apply the iconography of pre-columbian cultures to a modern sculptural language. Normally I do not name the series I create, leaving that up to friends or collectors or even galleries. Though not limited to Maya these pieces received the name Neo-Mayans. These works are low-fired earthenware and painted with acrylic occasionally neon is used to enhance the figures. This series went out of production in 1998.
