ABOUT AID AND COMFORT OF NEW MEXICO

Since 1989, AID and Comfort has raised private funds to help those living with HIV and AIDS in New Mexico pay their medical bills. While there have been hopeful advances in the treatment of HIV/AIDS, the side effects of long-term treatment and the mutable character of the virus make our mission more critical than ever. The proceeds from our Gala provide our major source of revenue. Due to the generosity of our community, we are able to provide the security that no eligible person will be denied medical care because of an inability to pay.

OUR HISTORY

In 1989, in an effort to help friends afflicted with HIV/AIDS, and in response to the AIDS crisis, a small volunteer group of Santa Feans organized the first AID and Comfort Gala as a way to raise money to help pay for health care related to the epidemic.

The Gala event has become one of the most successful community based fundraising events in New Mexico and is often touted as the “best party in Santa Fe!” Since the beginning, funds raised have been used to pay medical bills and insurance co-pays for those with HIV/AIDS. In 1995, a Board of Directors was formed and tax exempt status awarded to AID and Comfort of New Mexico Inc.

2000-2004

The commitment to those served by AID and Comfort has never changed. However, the environment and resources have changed. Since the first of 2000, AID and Comfort has seen the monthly medical disbursements rise by over 300%! These rising costs and the diminishing private AIDS grant funding have presented a great challenge to AID and Comfort.

AID and Comfort and Southwest Care Center announced their decision to merge the two agencies as of January 1, 2005. The consolidation of administrative functions and overhead expense and the transfer of assets to Southwest CARE Center will assure healthcare assistance for those we serve into the future.

The Annual Gala will continue to be produced by volunteers under the leadership of Southwest CARE Center. Revenue from the Gala will continue to fund healthcare for those with HIV/AIDS. It is our heartfelt hope that you will lend your support to this transition and assure the continuation of the AID and Comfort Fund supported by the AID and Comfort Gala.
